This was a very special collection of Joyce Ridings, inspired by archive pieces brought to light during work for her Retrospective Exhibition (Gallery of Costume, Platt Hall, Manchester 11 May – 3 September 2011) and also influenced by her times in Paris. Anyone who was privileged to hear Joyce interviewed on Woman’s Hour on 3 June 2011 will have been charmed by her and her account of her grandmother’s influence, the philosophy behind her designs and her loyalty to Manchester and UK manufacture. Her designs from 1966 to 2011 exude classic, timeless elegance to such an extent that it is hard to identify when any of her clothes are from. These are investment pieces made in the UK from very high quality fabrics that are incredibly wearable, stylish and flattering.
Within this Autumn Winter collection, there was the cheeky knot pocket, crop trouser in Charcoal with new knitwear edged and tipped in contrast colours, or topped with a Ballet Pink sweater. Pop on the perforated “hoodie” coat in Grey and Black Jersey over the jersey slim skirt or trousers. Wear the iconic batwing, button back black wool crepe dress forever. Please explore the collection below, the remaining pieces of which are now on sale! Not all items, colours or sizes are still available.
Joyce Riding’s UK sizes are true to size and, in general, most of the styles suit women who are quite neat in the body. I have tried to give approximate dimensions so that you can understand the lengths of the garments because Joyce usually designs on the longer side. However, everything we carry can be easily shortened.
