Gail Klevan lives in North-West London and specialises in acrylic jewellery incorporating glowing colours and gold and silver leaf reminiscent of my favourite Gustav Klimt paintings. If you’ve seen the originals of Klimt’s paintings, you will know how their richness and luminosity can hardly be captured in reproductions and photographs. So it is with Gail’s jewellery because the pieces use the optical qualities of the acrylic and when photographed they can lose depth and can look flat and two-dimensional. Viewers should be aware that the sharpness, texture, colour and clarity of the original pieces are not always fully apparent in the pictures on the website.
Gail has attracted a large and enthusiastic following, not just in the UK but in many overseas countries too. Gail's work is found in both national and private collections and has been listed in the contemporary section of Judith Miller's Collectables Guide. All items are made from acrylic or similar plastics and are formed by a variety of methods. Each piece has been decorated personally by Gail Klevan using various metallic foils and coloured compounds. They are backed with durable lacquers and varnishes and some items are signed and dated, adding to their collectability.
